Stump Grinding + Yard Restoration
Quick quote below.
No email and no commitment!
At Oak + Iron, we believe stump removal should be an exact science, not a headache. Founded by Josh—a career engineer with a focus on efficiency and structural integrity—we bring a level of technical precision to your yard that the "average guy with a grinder" simply can’t match. We understand that your time is valuable and your lawn is an investment. Our process is designed for high-impact results with a low-impact footprint: we get in, utilize professional-grade Vermeer equipment to pulverize the stump, and get out, leaving your property cleaner than we found it. When you hire an engineer, you aren’t just getting a job done; you’re getting a project managed with safety, speed, and precision.
The Finish Your Lawn Deserves
A hole in the ground isn't a finished project. We offer tiered restoration options to fit your vision for the space. You can choose our standard grind-and-leave service, or opt for our premium Lawn-Ready Restoration. Because North Carolina’s heavy red clay presents unique challenges for new growth, we don’t just "fill the hole." For our restoration clients, we haul away the nitrogen-depleting wood chips and backfill the site with our custom-engineered soil blend—a specific mix of topsoil and organic amendments designed to balance PH levels and promote rapid root development. Finished with high-quality fescue seed and straw, we ensure that the only evidence of that old stump is the lush, green grass that grows in its place.

Understanding the Investment: Our Quote Variables
At Oak + Iron, we utilize a transparent, data-driven pricing model. Rather than providing "rough estimates," we analyze several key site variables to ensure your quote is accurate and reflects the actual scope of work.
Stump Dimensions (Diameter & Flare): The primary driver of cost is the total volume of wood to be processed. We measure the full diameter at ground level, including the root flare, to determine the time required for a complete grind.
Target Grinding Depth: Depending on your future plans for the site—whether you are laying sod or pouring a foundation—the depth of the grind may vary. Deeper excavations require additional time and mechanical load.
Species Density & Root Complexity: Hardwoods, multiple-trunk "clump" stumps, and species with expansive surface root systems require a more methodical approach and increased equipment runtime compared to softer wood varieties.
Project Volume: We prioritize efficiency. While the initial mobilization carries a base fee, we offer significant per-stump discounts for multi-stump projects completed during a single site visit.
Restoration Scope: Your final cost is influenced by the level of finish you choose, ranging from our standard "grind-and-leave" to our high-end, engineered soil and seed restoration.
Site Accessibility: While our equipment is designed to fit through standard 36-inch gates, stumps located on steep inclines or in areas with limited maneuvering room may require specialized site-prep.
Regulatory Requirements: If your project requires specific local permits or specialized utility coordination beyond the standard NC 811 locate, we factor these logistical requirements into your project plan.
